The tarpon have been moving very well on the ocean and I have had the opportunity to see hundreds of fish moving in a school at a time. The wind has finally let up and we are getting ready for the annual worm hatch here in Islamorada. Finally getting our beautiful summer weather clear skies and light winds.
Let's plan your day on the water soon! Capt. Todd Monson

While sight fishing for other species my client Alex landed this boxfish on fly. It's absolutely gorgeous here in Islamorada. I look forward to getting you on the water soon! Book online: www.outofthebluecharters.com #islamoradafishingcharters #flyfishingislamorada
Hot weather and good fishing, not a bad way to start off the New Year. This years winter fishery is more likely to be confused with our fall fishing. Plenty of tarpon, snook, redfish, and trout around the back country of the Everglades National park. For the anglers looking to have a full day of rod bending action, the spanish mackerel have been out in full force. Near shore patch reef action has been great - snapper, grouper, and hogfish are just a few of the species we've been finding out on the patch reefs.
Capt. Todd Monson 305-393-5003 [email protected] The fall fishery has carried through our winter season so far because we have not had the cold weather come in yet. The bonefish have been more abundant since the freeze we had a few years ago which is nice to see. We caught a few decent sized bonefish recently even with the heavy winds this month using live shrimp. On the edge of the Gulf its red hot, we are catching bluefish, Spanish mackerel, snapper, seatrout, triple tail, cobia, blackdrum and large sharks.
In Everglades National Park we are finding large schools of seatrout, jacks and ladyfish in these large muds created by mullet with soft plastics. Under the mangroves with live bait we are catching decent sized snook. Sight fishing for redfish has been challenging due to the wind, but we have caught a few in the past month that were found sunbathing by the shoreline edges. |
